Whey protein stops sugar spikes
Whey protein for breakfast can help stop sugar spikes through the day and help in a weight loss programme.
A large breakfast with whey protein, a medium sized lunch and a small dinner has proved to be a successful strategy for weight loss.
The whey powder is a by-product of milk during cheese production and was better at making people feel fuller and have less sugar spikes compared to other protein like eggs, soy or tuna.
Research at Tel Aviv University was investigating whether overweight people and those with type 2 diabetes could benefit.
It found the whey powder “induced greater satiety and a reduction of glucose spikes after meals compared to other proteins”.
The results of the 23 month long study were presented to the annual meeting of the Endocrine Society in Boston.
