The study at the University of Michigan found that substituting 10pc of your intake from beef and processed meats to a mix of the good food could allow you to gain 48 minutes of health per day. It could also reduced your dietary carbon footprint by one third.
The researchers classified foods into three colours – green, yellow and red – based on their combined nutritional and environmental performances. They looked at more than 5,800 foods to rank them in the different groups.
They also ranked them in terms of healthy life minutes gained or lost on a scale of -74 to +80 minutes.
The results were published in the journal Nature Food.
