Beat Covid blues with an online health and happiness course

Beat Covid blues with an online health and happiness course

Are being ground down mentally and physically by the impact of Covid?  You might like to sign up to a free, online public course on health and happiness.

The 10 week course  is being launched by the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland on March 3rd next.

It is a response the the effects of the Covid crisis on health and wellbeing.

“We already know that the virus will have far-reaching and long-lasting implications, not least on our resilience and mental health” says Prof Ciaran O’Boyle, Director of the RCSI Centre for Positive Psychology and Hea.

“The course will support people to better understand the science behind their own health and happiness so that they know ho to stay well, develop their resilience and learn to flourish.”

Happiness

The programme will examine happiness, the health of the whole person, mindfulness and meditation and give people ways to optimise well being.

It will use the principles of positive psychology and lifestyle medicine to help people identify obstacles and paths to their happiness.

“We are delighted to bring this course to the public during a time when it has never been needed more”, says Prof O’Boyle.

The goal is to share strategies for fostering healthy and happiness for all age groups from childhood to adolescene and in older age.

Positive Health

Prof O’Boyle  will deliver the course with Dr Trudy Meehan, Senior Clinical Psychologist, specialising in child and adolescent mental health and Dr Pádraic Dunne, Immunologist, practicing psychotherapist and meditation teacher.

Both Dr Meehan and Dr Dunne lecture at the RSCI  Centre for Positive Psychology and Health.

The Centre for Positive Psychology and Health aims to give people  knowledge and support to take control of their health and wellbeing and thereby reduce the pressure on health systems.

It provides training for health professionals and for the public, as well as helping organisations to develop interventions to increase workforce well-being.

The online lectures will be spread over 10 weeks with a new lecture being delivered each week.

The course is completely free of charge to anyone who is interested.
